My top book recommendations for business, life and achieving FI

I could not have done my journey to Financial Independence without the many books that helped me on the way.

Below is a clickable affiliate link list I am keeping updated with my top reading recommendations.

Basics of FI:

  1. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki. An absolute must-read which got me hooked on FI. Shows you how to think like an entrepreneur instead of an employee.
  2. Set For Life by Scott Trench. Great book from the CEO of Biggerpockets. About living the true American dream.
  3. Your Money Or Your Life by Vicki Robin. About finding the balance between work and what truly matters.
  4. The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris. Showed me that there is a better way than the 40+ hour workweek most of us are living.

Real Estate Investing:

  1. The Book on Rental Property Investing by Brandon Turner. A comprehensive guide covering everything you need to know to build a profitable rental property portfolio. First book on real estate investing I ever read.
  2. Buy, Rehab, Rent, Refinance, Repeat (BRRRR) by David Greene. Explains the BRRRR investing strategy which helped me scale exponentially and achieve infinite ROIs in a few of my investments.
  3. Long-Distance Real Estate Investing by David Greene. How to invest in out-of-state properties effectively and profitably. If your market is not suitable, but a good lesson in business either way.
  4. The Book on Managing Rental Properties by Brandon Turner. Read this before you launch your first rental. In hindsight whenever I made a mistake with tenants, I did NOT follow the rules in there.

Mindset:

  1. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. A timeless classic on improving personal and professional relationships.
  2. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Explores the psychological power of thought and the brain in the process of furthering your career for both monetary and personal satisfaction.
  3. Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck. Illustrates how a growth mindset (as opposed to a fixed mindset) can lead to success in virtually every aspect of life.
  4. Atomic Habits by James Clear. A guide to building good habits and breaking bad ones, offering life-changing insights. I just wish I followed what is in that book…

Leadership and Entrepreneurship:

  1. Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. Leadership principles from battlefield experiences that apply to leading any team to success.
  2. The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell. A powerful, definitive statement of the timeless laws you simply must follow if you want to be a great leader.
  3. Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts. by Brené Brown. Explores how to cultivate awesome leadership.
  4. Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap…And Others Don’t by Jim Collins. The title speaks for itself – good read for entrepreneurs.
  5. Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. Excellent book on negotiating. Saved me $5000 on a wholesale deal I bought right after I read it.

Personal Finance and Wealth Management:

  1. The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko. Debunks the myths about wealth in America and shows how you can build financial independence.
  2. The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins. A guide for those of you seeking a straightforward and effective approach to investing and financial independence (think index funds).
  3. The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. If you struggle with high expenses and debt – this is the book you need to get you back on track.

Enjoy the books, and I hope they help you as much as they helped me.

Happy reading,

-Daniel
